Hi, I need some advice please, as you can see over the last couple of years my cherry tree has become very sparse, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it thrive again please. I really don’t want to lose it. Many thanks

Hi, I can see some dieback that could be a disease that cherries commonly get but I notice it is in a pot and that is probably the biggest problem. Pots aren't great for trees, they can be ok for very dwarfing rootstock, because most tend to under size them, use the wrong potting medium or add other things that compete for nutrients.
The first thing I would do is pot it into a large container with a good soil mix and then make sure it stays moist and well watered.

Hi, thank you, I’ll give that a go, do you think it could reverse the dieback?

I would cut the obviously dead bits back to a healthy pair of leaves and given good conditions and a little tlc, it should resprout from there.

I never under plant any thing treelike in a pot.
Especially if it's something I might want fruit off.
It needs the whole pot to itself.

Our Morello is in the ground but then we have space to do so. This year is the best flowering in 10 years. Thankfully the birds aren't to keen on the cherries and so we do have a harvest for bottling/jamming.

          About two months ago.:heehee:

If you are careful and dont disturb the roots too much you could do it now.
