I have quite a large germanium plant which I had grown from a cutting of my Grandfathers Geranium. It has been very successful, I have had lots of lovely flowers this year. However, more recently it had outgrown it's pot and had become a bit unruly, one of the side shoots had become quite weighty and has now snapped off. I have cut the shoot that fell off, made it into three smaller cuttings (hoping they will take) However, now the main plant looks a bit sorry for itself. The leafs have started to crinkle and go brown mainly at the bottom of the plant, but a couple nearer the top have also started to go the same way. Can anyone offer me any advice on this? Has it gone into shock? he he

I don't think it's gone into shock. Plant's of all types have been suffering this year. The weather has been so changeable and has had a bad effect on them. You would probably do best to take what cuttings you can and discard the 'mother' plant. Hopefully next year will be better. :)

You could try cutting it back just to see if you get any new growth. Has it set seed at all?

These aren't the best pictures in the world but hopefully you'll be able to see what i'm explaining from them..

This one shows the outline of the leaf starting to turn brown

Lolly, geraniums are hardy perrenial plants with the common name of Cranesbill. It sounds to me that what you have is a Pelargonium which people mistakenly refer to as Geranium.:D:dbgrtmb: I would take as many cuttings as possible, but do not discard the main plant unless you absolutely have to.:dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:

    Hi Lollyb.

I have to say, that in MY opinion, it's not in the best location. Pelargoniums like plenty of light, and IF it were me, I'd take out the growing tip,(which you could use as a cutting) and put it outside in a sunny position. Be sure to bring it in as soon as there's any chance of frost. I'm by no means an expert, but fwiw, that's my advice.

    Cheers...Freddy.
