Poppy Question

    This is the first year that I have mixed large red poppies with my Roses(under planting)the problem is now that the Poppies have flowered and are about 3 feet long and they are laying all sprawled out everywhere on the roses.what do I do now, Any suggestions will be most welcome,thank you:)

    If they are going to continue to spoil your view of your roses Woo- have 'em out. Always grow more next year if the fancy takes you but I've a feeling it won't,

      Are they oriental poppies? If they are, take the shears to them, nearly to ground level. They'll come back, maybe flower again but certainly look better than the old, sprawly stems and leaves:) This can work up to three times during a summer.....
      If they are opium poppies (doesn't sound like them) just scatter the seed pods everywhere and yank the old plants out.

        Yeah, I chop them right off but always leave one or two seed heads to develop just in case they take offence and don't reappear - they always have, though they seem to move around a bit. They'll produce a small and much tidier clump of foliage, should look OK then.
