poppy seeds

    HI
    now that spring is around the corner I have planted my poppy seeds that I brought from my house move last year in small plant pots on the window sill the only problem is that they are growning very leggy and wondered is this normal and when can I plant them outside

    If they are the hardy annual type of poppy, I think they are better direct sown, where they are to flower.

    thanks Pete I will pop them into the spot this week end just thought they would have a better start indoors Thanks again. poppy

    Hi Poppy

    Annual poppies are best direct sown in either the autumn, or spring (Late March onwards) but if you do sow them indoors, do it in individual cells as they resent root disturbance. They may have gone leggy (etoliated) due to lack of light. Hope they have survived, there's plenty of time to sow some more outside, and they like a poor soil that has been recently disturbed.
