    Hello everyone

I have been given a large assorted mixture of poppy seeds and was wondering when and where to plant them. Do they need a sunny position? Type of soil do they like? [IMG]

    Many thx Sean [IMG]

Do you know or can you find out what types of poppies the seed originated from ? Most poppies will thrive in any reasonable soil and can take full sun or part shade. I have oriental poppies (Papaver orientale) which I find attractive when in flower but as soon as flowering is over, I cut down the foliage and plant bedding in the area vacated by the foliage, Welsh poppies (Meconopsis cambrica) which are pretty and yellow and self seed like mad, and Himalayan poppies which are the infamous blue ones, which I love and wish would self seed. If I can grow them up here with minimal attention, I am sure you will succeed
