Well, I voted for Joe McElderry when he won X-Factor and now he has won Operastar .. and what a voice for such a young man. I love Katherine Jenkins but not sure I like her new Marilyn Monroe look ...
Is Joe going to try and win all these shows until a record company actually doesn't sack him after 1 album? And no one good has come out of a ''talent'' show, bar-Lemar. Leona Lewis, Olly Murs, Shayne Ward, Cher etc, polluting the music industry with their garbage.
Harsh, but true! I don't think you should be able to enter the charts if you can't write your own songs. That'd get rid of about 90% of the charts, restoring them back to their former great self! Simon Cowell has a lot to answer for, he's the anti-christ of music.
Hey, Kyle, I've got 40 years on you and I know music .. plus hubby worked in it in the States and we know (that means met) people you have possibly never heard of. Three Dog Night, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Allman Brothers, Styk, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Chad & Jeremy, Climax Blues Band, Linda Ronstat, Kiss, Emerson Lake & Palmer ... the list could go on and on .. You say Cher .. do you mean the real Cher because we know her, ie, of Sonny & ... Simon Cowell may have a lot to answer for but Joe has talent ... but then again, that is only my opinion ...
Cher Lloyd, don't make me post her new song on this thread, else the entire forum would melt or something :D And Joe isn't talented, he has about as much charisma as a packet of crisps! And I know of many of the people you listed, and I am a fan of Frankie. BUT, my music taste is very different to yours, obviously, and I want a lot more from the music I listen to than it being manufactured on some lame TV show which crucifies people who can't sing and shows them to millions of people on a saturday night to laugh at, that's not music, and you can't defend it. Oh, and; YouTube - Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger‏ :D
I also think Joe has a brilliant voice, so controlled. Since watching the programme I have a yearning to go to the opera just once before I die, was looking at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden website last night.....It's mind boggling....Where to sit, IF you can get a seat. If there are any gardening Opera buffs on hear......Any tips?
Hi Roders, Although a devoted Led Zeppelin/Robert Plant fan I'm into blues and opera aswell. You would be best to go for one of the lighter opera's if there is such a thing. They tend to have the music you'll recognise. La Boheme and La Traviata are two to start with. Because a lot of opera's are sung in different languages, it would be best for you to get an outline of the story before you go. Internet's a good place to start. Also, the story-lines tend to be tragic, but the music tends to take the 'edge' off it. I find opera very emotional, especially when you have great voices behind the songs. On another note (excuse the pun) have you ever listened to Josh Groban. He has an operatic voice and sings a cross between opera and pop. Well worth a listen! With regards seating, sit at least halfway back, circle or box, even better.
I'm afraid I have to agree with Kyleleonard on this one. Joe McElderry has an OK voice as do many of them but I would never actually buy any of it!!! I suppose it is each to his own but somehow it just doesn't seem like real music!! Val
Because it isn't real music singing a song which someone else wrote, about their own personal experience isn't 'real' like many of Leona, Olly, Cher songs..
Hi Paula and Sheal. I want to see the opera in all it's glory,no particular singer......the glamour, the drama, the whole concept, the experience and of course the beautiful voices. But Kyle I will always love Bob Dylan..... And Cher Lloyd is cool as well ........In her own way.....
I must admit when i am watching any of these Mass Media TV Music Talent/or Not shows I Always listen for a short time ,and watch. I then just listen with my eyes closed and ask myself the question-"Would I Buy That" . Most times a little voice will say NO.:WINK1: Its amazing the difference when you cut out the visual . .
