Porridge?

    So I've just started eating porridge (not anywhere near as gross and slimy as I remember from when I was younger) as I was looking for something cheap chearful that I could eat in the morning when I'm at university and I couldnt stand the idea of Museli :euw: so I was wondering what if anything people would recommend in there porridge?

    I have started eating more porridge due to the fact that it is better for my type2 Diabetes as it is slow releasing and hopefully will stop spikes.I sprinkle cinnamon in with it as I cook it on the stove and then once it is in the bowl I usually add some sliced strawberries,blueberries or a couple of grapes etc.

    I much prefere in the summer months to have either weetabix or bite sized shreddies but on the rare occassions I fancy a change and have either of those for breakfast,within an hour or so I am starting to feel hungry again whereas the porridge keeps me going for longer,so have had to go back to the porridge.

    I always make mine with semi skimmed milk as opposed to water so I can get my calcium intake for the day and never ever add salt.I had some of that once up in Scotland and had to leave the porridge as it tasted so awful but each to their own:D

    I also buy the porridge with the biggest falkes as I think they are better for you than some of the cheaper types that have been ground down more:p

    Oh and I don't add any artificial sugar either as I find the cinnamon and fruit help to make it taste ok for me to eat:D

    If I'm doing physical work in the garden I'll have Ready Brek (or cheaper Tesco's own brand) with a large helping of golden syrup - it keeps me going till elevenses.

    Porage or Porridge (funny that isn't it?) reminds me of my childhood, I used to have it with a dab of honey. Wouldn't touch the stuff now.

    As we eat late usually around 9.00pm, my breakfast is usually a cup of black Nescafé, no sugar, or if I'm playing golf I'm "instructed" to have something, so it will be a couple of Weetabix with milk but no sugar.
    I can't face "real food" much before mid-day, because I'm not hungry. Even when I was working the routine was pretty much the same.
    I've just had a second cup of coffee made on our cappuccino machine.
    My first meal today will be around 3.00pm when as a ritual, we have a haddock n' chips lunch (one portion of chips between the two of us) at a nice fish restaurant, then a bit of shopping in Waitrose and a coffee in their caféteria. No main meal tonight, cheese, tomatoes, pickle and french bread.

    I like to vary what I put in mine, but these are my favourites, Cinnamon & raisins is one.. Honey & chopped toasted nuts... A nice dollop of your Mums home made jam.. :wink: Or just milk & brown sugar..:thumb:

    Personnally I can't stand the stuff (sorry!), but my youngest loves it with Honey, or any fruit...strawberrys, blackberries (free and in abundance at the moment) raisins etc. or if you like something sweeter you can try chocolate chips :)

    Its good for grouting or sticking down that bit of wall paper that keeps lifting :hehe:

    I'll say!

    My wife has it occasionally and you have to run the bowl under the tap immediately after use to rinse it off, or the dishwasher has a struggle to remove it if it dries on.

    I mix ours up in the evening with half-fat milk and brown sugar, then nuke it until just hot in the morning.

    Sometimes we have it just like that, othertimes I add some cinnemon, ground ginger, raisens, chopped almonds, banana, etc.

    We don't eat it much in the summer, prefering cereal, but several times a week in the cold months.

    I reckon they could coat the space shuttle in it!...once dried, it's the hardest substance known to man!:hehe:

    I have porridge every morning - as it was recommended by my doctor to help reduce cholesterol. Didn't like it at first. Now I enjoy it.

    I have it with semi-skimmed and stevia (a sweetener made from a herb - it has been used for centuries by the South American Indians). I also have fresh mango for breakfast and sometimes add some of the juice from it.

    Mrs shiney has cinnamon with hers.

    We have also had it with sour cream, natural yoghurt, raisins, fresh berries, fruit compote, banana - but not all at the same time.
