My adopted country as a lot of you know ... did any of you watch this programme on BBC2 tonight?

Alentejo is the region above Algarve where I live, but only 20 minutes or so away ....

Hi, pete ... you'll LOVE it ... we were mesmerised and although t'other half has always wanted to live there .... I' m seriously thinking about another place ... but wouldn't give up my Algarve ....

Must say, the programme had llittle to do with the cork industry until the end, which is why we watched it. The majority of the programme was about the flora and fauna and as I said above was mesmerising .... it's a more beautiful country than I knew I lived in.

We caught it. It was superb!
Oh you lucky, lucky, lady LOL to live so close. I could spend weeks there walking, looking and taking pics. What a diversity of flora and fauna!!

I thought the prog did manage to make the point about natural corks and the associated environmental issues pretty well, we'll certainly think twice about the bungs in the bottles we buy.

    Natural World - 19:10

Cork - Forest in a Bottle
Wildlife film. Every time we weigh up which bottle of wine to buy, we hold the fate of nightingales, rare black storks, secretive wild cats and one of the world's most remarkable trees in our hands. Cork producer and wildlife enthusiast, Francisco Garrett explains what will be lost if cork stoppers are replaced by plastic or screwtops.

    BBC2 : (50 mins)

I will be watching Lol. Not guilty on the cork/plastic controversy as I don't drink wine (or spirits come to that) but obviously concerned about what is happening although I feel there little I can do about it.:(

You all know I am somewhat biased here, for which I make no excuses .... but watching this again tonight was more beautiful than the first time ..... and I'm in shouting distance of this .....

If anyone did not see it who truly wants to, let me know ... it was the best flora and fauna I've seen in a long time, and I love Monty Don's voice doing the narration .... :)

I found it very interesting Lol, I could spend a week just walking round the cork plantations. Only the buying customers can make a difference and make or break the industry and the wildlife dependant on it. Unfortunately too many people are apathetic about such issues and couldn't careless.
