Portugease Laural?

I have a large hedging bush/tree in the garden. I think it is Portuguese Laurel but just wanted a second opinion.

The only thing I am unsure about is that the shoots do not seem to be the dark red as shown in examples online and given in descriptions.

Leaves are about 6cm in length and 2.5cm in diameter a the widest point.

Any thoughts?

Doesn't look right for Prunus laurocerasus...cherry laurel.
Which has large evergreen leaves alternate on a branch.

I think your hedge could be Euonymus sp.
Your pic appears to have leaves that are opposite.

Hmm, the pictures of Euinymous leaves show a two colour leaf, light green with a yellow fringe/edge or dark green with a white fringe edge. This is most certainly a solid dark green.

 

There are many variegated Euonymus.
However there are also evergreen ones with plain green leaves as well.
Eg Euonymus japonicus.
