Only when browsing gc (so far) I sometimes get randomly redirected to a page that purports to be Google but isn't, and a pop-up then informs me that my phone is damaged due to viruses and I must go to play store to download their fix.

I know gc itself is not guilty. But the ads injected by Google might be. It's a known malware trick to embed malicious script into an ad.

Just in case anyone else gets the same issue, I'd advise strongly against panicking and downloading the app it recommends. Your browser can't do very much to your phone, but apps can, and its a common trick to try to scare or trick people into voluntarily installing malware.

tmp_2638-Screenshot_20160529-220727-1531710750.png Yup, getting this all the time now when logging in on phone. It's bloody annoying as it freezes up the browser and sticks it in a loop. Looks like attached pic

            That's the one.

When it happens, switch off both WiFi and mobile data, then click OK. It tries to redirect in a loop but can't because you're offline.

Well it prevents me from logging in on the browser on my phone which is my main method of accessing the site. Hope it's sorted soon

              This problem has returned unfortunately.

I must admit it is putting me off visiting GC. When it happens, I have to go to the tedious lengths of going into settings, switch off wifi, then mobile data, switch off mobile data, come back to chrome, click OK to get rid of the message, it then tries to redirect straight back but can't because I've disabled all connectivity. I then close the offending tab, then back into settings to reconnect my wifi and mobile data. It's a right carry on. If I dont do all that, I have no access to the Internet anymore because chrome reloads the last page even if you close it then reopen it. If my phone is doing background updates at the time, it creates further bother because of course the updates fail.

Going to have to contact Google about this then, as I have blocked the original, and wondering whether it's the same company using a different company name..... If it is, this could be ongoing for as long as they keep changing names, unless I can do a block on that type of advert.....

                  Fingers crossed

Update. I've been logging on every now and then. roughly 1 in 4 times I visit, I get the browser hijack. While I've been 'away', I've been making heavy use of other forums, all without issues.

However it seems there's been a recent chrome update. So last time the hijack happened chrome spotted it and successfully blocked it.

Downside is the Samsung keyboard software also updated, rendering it an utter nightmare to use.
