Potato Disaster

    So - thought I would try late Potatoes in a few different types of containers for Christmas, last week they were looking good & just starting to flower:

    But come Saturday Ive lost the whole lot:

    Oh dear. Would that be the potato blight? If so, nothing for it but to dig them up and scoff the lot before they have time to rot. In my experience they won't store even for a week or two.

    On the bright side, it might be just natural autumn die-back.

    Nick, the important thing is to not let the blight reach the tubers, so cut the stems a couple of inches BELOW the infection, then leave the spuds to grow on. If the blight has already reached soil level, then dig the plants up and enjoy whatever you have.:thumbsup:

    I cut them back almost to ground level - there wasnt much left alive & no sign of any regrowth so far so Im pretty sure its going to be a total loss ; I will probably dig them all out at the weekend if theres no sign of life.

    Ah well - alteast the beans are cropping well, despite the wind.
