Just wondering if anyone had problems with their potato crop this year. I am very keen on the humble potato and attempt to grow different varieties every year. Some remain old favourites however, such as Charlotte. This year one of the varieties was Nicola. I have grown this in the past but this year was bothered with 'Spraing'. Virtually the whole lot was affected. The seed was purchased, as always, from Thomson & Morgan and the preparation and treatment of the 'spuds' was the same as always. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The problem I had with my crop of potatoes was when I boiled them the skins split leaving a mushy mess in the pan. I tried boiling the potatoes at different temps but still they split.

Thanks for that site its really interesting and helpful.
I took on an allotment last year and this is my first year of crop. I have made quiet a few mistakes and hope next year things will go ok.
This site looks as though it will be very useful for next years crop hopefully!!!!

Capercaillie, I had a problem with my pink fur apples this year, although you'll have to explain what 'spraing' is to me, before I can say if its the same problem you had. :D

You learn something new every day!!! Now it appears I have had 'sprang' in my spuds almost every year! And every year I've tried different pots.
