    Hi all,

I'm new to growing vegetables and planted some potatoes in the bottom of the garden.

We seem to get loads of slugs and snails here and was wondering, if they eat all the leaves on the potatoes does that have any effect on the crop?

What would gardeners recommend to use to get rid of these slimy pests, bearing in mind we have small inquisitive children and a dog.

    Tracy. :p

    Hi Tracy,
Yes slugs eating the leaves will affect the crop.
They also eat into the tubers and ruin the spuds.

I use sug pellets widely spaced but if thats not acceptable you could try the liquid poisons that are watered on the plants.

Failing that there is a biological control that may work, never tried it myself though.

    Have a look here
