Started composting last september and have noticed recently more and more potato sprouts are coming up in the bin. Me and the other half are avid potato peelers and have added an alwful lot to the bin over the past few months.

Ive done a few searches and found not many people get this problem. What am I doing wrong? Everything else seems to be composting fine except my peelings.

You should never put peelings in a compost bin. Even small peelings will re grow.

As Lad said, don't put tatey peelings in the compost bin. They grow. I made this mistake once, and ended up with potatoes growing in my herb bed.

It shouldn't be a problem if your compost heap gets up to temperature, the heat should finish the peelings off. But if it doesn't I wouldn't worry unduly, potatoes are pretty obvious when they sprout up and easily pulled up as weeds.

Never a problem in 'Dialeks' with balanced additions, only if chucked in open bay composters.
