The fruits on the top of your potatoes are exactly that, fruit. BUT despite looking like tomatoes and actually being related to them they are very very POISONOUS! Under no circumstances should you eat them!

We never do, but then we do not put potato or tomato tops on the compost heap anyway (blight problems). You may find that you get seedling potatoes growing from them in your compost.

Green waste bin, used to burn them, but I forgot to leave a space for bonfires when I did the garden. If your plants are clean with no sign of infection, then they can go on your compost heap, no trouble. We live in a potato growing area and we always get blight.

Hi Palustris, just wanted to let you know we lifted our main crop of potato's today.
They looked great and we decided to take your advice and to put the tops and weird tomato like pods into our council rubbish collection.
    Thanks again for your help.
