I went home for lunch today and was horrified to see that my two bins full of potato plants have taken a real hammering in the windy and wet weather. They were a good 3 foot high , but now they have all bent over and were falling over the side of the bins.

I noticed that none of the main stems have snapped, just bent right over, so I have put canes in the soil and tied the foliage up gently to the canes, and that seems to be supporting them fine for now.

Do you think they'll die? Or might they be okay? They were just starting to flower.

Hi canucks 75 iv'e got the same problem here in the east, you'll be surprised how resilliant they are .
Most of mine are in flower and all have taken a battering, they should recover as most of there hard work is done now mine are in my main plot and not in pots or sacks so in theory you should be better off than me , but im'e not unduely worried

Well, I agree with MickyV. They'll probably come good.

I think your potatoes will be fine Canucks. I've seen whole fields of them flat on their faces and they were fine.

Thank you all. They look fine for now, so maybe I was being overly nervous.

This vegetable growing lark is okay for the most part but I find it's sometimes like having kids, you're constantly worrying about scuffed knees and broken arms! Dear me. It can be hard work!
