Hi Im a bit of a novice.

Last year I started to grow some potatoes in a potato bag. When I tried to dig them up out of the first bag they were tiny. I placed them along the fence in the bags and left them. I havent touched them since last September and only noticed today a lot of green leaves in the bags. I dug down about 2 inches and there was a decent sized new potato. I know this may sound a stupit question but are they edible after being left for that many months?
    Any advice greatly received.
    Thanks Lucie

If they are firm, then they're ok.

It sounds like you missed one when you harvested last year, and it grew and produced a second crop, but the bit that puzzles me is it think its a bit early to the this year's crop.

I reckon you are looking at last year's potato (i.e. has the roots and stem attached) and I would not try eating that - it will not be nice. For 'new' potatoes growing outside from volunteers they will be about the size of marbles if you are lucky at this time of year. Have a good look amongst the root system to see any.
