This may sound a silly question to you experts out there but the leaves on my Abbotswood Potentilla are going brown and falling off. Is this normal for this time of year?

Well, they are supposed to be deciduous, so yes it is normal. they may have stayed green over the last few winters becaue of the mildness of the weather.
