My fern trunk is approx 70cm tall.

Last year as it was mostly mild, it was left outside monitoring the weather for frost/freeze. I left the leaves attached and this year with constant watering it is quite bushy.

So, doing the same for this winter and putting in my shed if severe a frost/freeze is forecasted.

Do I leave the leaves or cut them back to the trunk to regrow from next spring.

If it makes it easier to shift about I would snip them off.

I tied mine up and put them in greenhouse last year. Much better for the health of the crown imho. Used to cut them off (last ten years) after a frost but the crown neck narrows.

This year might have to cut them again as theyve frozen already with 3 nights of frost so far.

If the fronds are green tomorrow they will be tied up and put in the bubble wrapped unheated greenhouse with a big lump of fleece put into the crown.
