Hi, I bought a small pack of Coir compost at the Poundshop which will make 10 Litres when mixed with water.
Hi John, What shop have you got Poundland or Poundworld ? I see you're from Ramsgate so I presume it's a Poundworld.
They're in most of the pound shop chains I picked a load up from Poundstretcher in the reductions last year some for as little as 40p for 15 litres
Yeah we have a large 99p shop as well which means that if the Poundland deal to buy them out goes ahead our Poundland will close. They've already said that that if they're succesful then they won't keep both shops open. In Worcester, our nearest city that have two Poundlands and a 99p shop so that will probably mean a lot of redundancies.
Sign of the times sadly, buy-outs & redundancies. Did notice that PL & 99p shops sometimes have more expensive items than 99p or £1, are we heading towards Poundland plus shops? Back to the subject please, what do members use their Coir for.
I wish they would keep the 99p Shops though because they have a much larger diversity of stock you really never know what you might find which makes it an interesting look round, unlike poundland where everything has to be homogenized and repackaged in to their own little "brands"
Coir is brilliant for all kinds of things Used as a seed compost with a touch of bonemealadd a bit more bonemeal and some perlite for a cuttings mixI use it exclusively with my epiphytic cacti with added bonemeal and perlite
Thanks for the info Ice Cold. I feed a family of Foxes, would they try digging up the Bonemeal ? i do have other plant food, would this be ok?
I can't answer you question @john558 but I've been told that blood fish & bone attracts foxes, I've stopped using it as I have hens!
I popped into my local store and bought a block for the cool germinating seed sowing. I think that it has a nice texture so I'll grab a few more blocks today for using in my potting mix. They also have some Calla tubers that look to be in nice condition.
Don't trust the label colour I bought what I thought was a cheery yellow one a few years back and it came up a beautiful ... purple! Think @Sheal had a similar experience and hers was an orange one? Thanks for the headsup @john558 @Beckie76 - I still use BF&B as a slow release fertilizer in my garden (which, as you know, has hens). Not had a problem. Also, if they were attracted to it, there would be evidence of them digging up the area the BF&B had been distributed; again, not had that problem. I'm able to compare both a town garden (suburban foxes) and a village location (country foxes). Besides, the hens would be enough in their own right to entice Mr Fox with or without anything extra like BF&B
I'm not overly bothered about the colour as I just want to try one outdoors and for a quid it's worth a punt.
B&M Home Bargains do larger packs of coir very cheaply, which I've used for adding organic matter to soil (with chicken manure).
