I know its a way off yet, but what plants grow well in containers that have lots of colour?

I'm planning winter pansies (with ivy) with bulbs planted at the bottom and I have a tub of chrysanthamums (sp?) already

but now I'm stuck for ideas [IMG] can anything be grown from seed for this winter? any seeds I should get going for the spring?

I have a variety of tubs so size isn't so much an issue, just I love colour and cos its a yard it can get very dingy in the winter so I'm after brightening it up [IMG]

    thanks

    Hi Aqua
How about some Cyclamen, Ophiopogon, & variegated ivy, underplanted with snowdrops. Or Ornamental cabbages with heather in shades of pink or white with grass Carex "Frosted Curls". Or a simple planting of box - Buxus. I find it lengthens the season of interest to put small bulbs in the containers such as muscari, snowdrops, dwarf narcissi, dwarf or species tulips. A nice combination is a small reddish phormium such as bronze baby with Yellow primulas & underplanted with Tulipa chrysantha & Narcissi "Jet Fire". Tulips look great in containers, if you really pack 'em in & limit yourself to at most 2 species to each pot. Also some of the evergreen herbs make good winter pot specimens such as santolina, Thyme, Rosemary. How about a small obelisk in a pot with a winter flowering clematis such as C. Cirhhosa "balearica" or "freckles" (small yellow bells, C f has maroon speckles). Try to imagine each pot as a bed in minature, and experiment & have some fun ! [IMG]

    Hi HM,
Hydropnonics is a different game I know, one thing has always puzzled me though , What the heck happens when you have a 24 hr power outage we can get this quite often & sometimes they can last for a couple of days. Not infrequently either.?????????????????????
