Prevent Birds digging up lawn

Have got at least 20 2inch deep holes where birds (i think magpies) have been digging up the garden.

Is there some sound device or something i can get to put them off or any seeds i can put down to stop them coming?

 

Welcome to Gardeners Corner ams.. Wouldn't have thought a Magpie would drill that deep. Have you recently sowed this lawn? There are still insects around that many birds love to forage. It's all part of Nature and helps things to germinate and flourish.

 

Not sure what kind of birds they are, but they are ruining my garden, just want something to prevent them. Cannot see many insects around the lawn

 

I agree with Jenny , they are doing you a favour as they are probably getting rid of insects/grubs that damage the lawn over the longer term big bonus for you , plus they are air-rating it for you at the same time.

Have you seen birds doing this? If you have, and can describe them, maybe someone could identify them for you?

I hope you find a solution for whatever insect/bird/rodent/animal is causing your lawn damage

 

It does sound like Crane fly larvea to me....(daddy long legs)...there seems to be alot of them about this year...this is when i miss the starlings...they used to get rid of them here and not cause half as much destruction as my chooksgive it a week or two and they should have flown and hopefully the lawn will recover

I think Lolimac is right, the birds (probably rooks or magpies) are most likely rooting around in the grass for the larvae of some insect such as crane fly or chafer grubs.
Give it a couple of weeks or so and the birds will probably move on somewhere else.
