I have just called my vets to arrange to get rosa spayed and its going to cost £210 i couldnt believe it, my neighbour downstairs had hers spayed last year at the same vets and it was £75, I told her this in the vets and she said they used to do dog trust and dont do it anymore.
I have left it for now to speak to o/h about it.
Can anyone reccomend a chaper alternative as i think thats a bit steep.

The only 3 alternatives I know of Linda are

    1) To watch her like a hawk and watch for signs of coming into season then do things like putting kiddies panties sprayed with anti-mate on her whenever there is any danger of a dog getting to her.

    2) Ring round and find a cheaper vets.

    3) Disguise her as something else:-

As you can see Ed has the same disguise but he is quite safe I assure you. Actually, no 2) looks like the best bet :D

Rosa,we had our Tina Speyed when she was four months old 16 years ago and it was quiet expensive then, but we payed the money because we didn't want the mess every six months and the hassle of other dogs whittling after her, like they did when we were told by the vets to let her have that first season out of the way first before they would do it.

She jumped onto the bed when we were out and it looked like there had been a murder,it was that bad.We had to thow the quilt out as it was a goose down one

I think that some vets like to do it before they have the first season and others afterwards. The bitches are at their most fertile when the bleeding stops and can become great escape artists trying to get to the dogs and then if they do get 'tied' that can last for a couple of hours and then you have to either have the pups aborted by the vet or go through the process of finding homes for them and if they are not pedigree like Tina wasn't then you can often find it difficult to rehome them.

Friends of ours mated their two German Shephard Dogs and ended up with 10 puppies to get rid of  They had great difficulty, and tried palming two of them onto us.

Also when the dogs get elderly if they remain unspeyed, they can get Pymetra and that in it'self causes the dog distress.

If it was me I would rather pay the money and not have the worry of it all.

Also I think the price goes on the size or weight of the dog so that they can get the anisthetic dosage right.

Let us know how you get on and Good Luck [IMG]

Hi Rosa,I have just Googled dog speying and the price can vary a lot. They all say that they go by the weight of the dog,so the heavier she is the more it will cost and most of them like to get the first season over with. For your Rosa's age she should already of had a few of them.

The speying will also protect her from Mammory cancer later on in life. Our next door neighbour where we used to live said we were cruel having Tina speyed, but his dog was in agony years later with the disease.I am so glad we had her done.

Have you had Rosa microchipped?they could do that at the same time as she is speyed which will help if she ever gets lost.

Let us know how you get on. [IMG]

Woo,Good luck with having Gypsy done. She might have to wear one of those Victorian collars for a few days but it will be worth it [IMG]

Hi Rosa, they are trying it on,just wanting to make as much money as they can out of you.The dog trust used to charge £25 for anyone on Incapacity Benefit or family tax credits but have stopped it now.

This is an old story Linda but the sentiment is the same. Shop around, I think £220 is well OTT, we never paid that and prices can't have gone up that much ?

Right BM. Can I quote from my original post:

'Actually, no 2) looks like the best bet'

Sorry to have confused the issue with a joke. Thought somebody might spot the real message - Shop around.
