I'd like to show off some of the Primroses I've grow over more than 20 years on the balcony. Please feel free to add your own pictures of Primroses - over the years.

Here are a few of my Primroses over the years on the balcony. As they are from many years ago now they are poor quality, especially compared to the pictures we can take nowadays with our mobile phones.

I think this first one was taken with a film camera (anybody remember those??[IMG]) To remember the dates I took many of my photos I wrote the date on a piece of paper so I would know when it was taken. It often took a long time before they were developed & printed & I would forget when I took them.

These last 5 I bought in little plastic cases from Wilco's in 2006!

The photos taken in 2003 & 2004 were taken using my very first digital camera my wife bought me. That was in the days before we had "smart" phones! Unfortunately it had very little memory & was heavy on battery power & they kept running out on me! (They were alkaline as well so it became an expensive hobby! I probably stopped using it after getting my first "smart" phone.

The only primroses I have are Primula Vulgaris, those usually found growing naturally in the countryside.

I was at a garden centre yesterday and they had the usual fantastic range of primroses or are they Polyanthus, I'm never sure, but I ve never found they are very good at taking the weather and rarely do as well if you plant them out.
I believe the old wild primrose, (@Sheal ) is so much better regarding weather resistance.

I just have the good old fashioned primrose that self seeds, sufficient to be a bit of a weed. For some reason I've never really liked the garden centre polyanthus.

They're nice and colourful for early spring and I always buy one or two, but they only seem to last one year. I tend to keep them in a cold frame. I have the wild ones spreading through the garden, coming up between slabs etc.

Interesting to read about your experiences with Primroses.

We don't see wild primroses around here but we do see Cowslips - lots of them! I found a field last year that has thousands of them, they turned the field yellow!

They probably wouldn't survive here @pete and I'm not that keen on them anyway. Having said that @shiney has one in his garden that always catches my eye when looking at the images he posts. :)

That must be the lacey Primrose that @shiney has. I can't find any here but the " regular" variety are real troopers here. They make me respectful of their stubbornness to survive.

We have loads of Primroses that spread themselves around the garden but I much prefer the Cowslips (Primula veris).

Ours come in all colours, shapes and sizes. Some also disappear suddenly :noidea:. Most of ours don't appear this early in the year so I'll see whether I can dig out some photos from previous years. :)

Just grabbed a few shots but haven't looked for more different ones.

These were not planted in this bed but were spread from other areas around the bed. Sadly these have disappeared  but others pop up all the time :).

Mine must be a totally different variety. They have much broader leaves. The same shape, a bit darker in colour but very much wider.

Thank you for sharing @shiney ! By the way, the Shineybrids are doing excellently :love30:

Yes, they always look good. A lot of mine have disappeared over winter but I collected about 1lb of mixed seed last year so shall spread some around. I have two charity beds that have asked for some to spread and some people are coming round to buy with proceeds to our charity.

I hope I shall get more red ones back in the new lot of seed but didn't think I would need to keep them separate :noidea:

A double Primula called 'Captain Blood' ... horrible name ... Taken last May. I've had it about 30 years. Hope it's still there.
