I have just taken out a privet hedge at the bottom of the garden and I am going to shred it.Is the mulch any good for the garden, or am I as well to bag it up and take it to the tip?

    Regards,
    D. Robinson.

I can find no mention anywhere of a good reason why you should not use privet shreddings as a mulch. Like any other decomposing material they can 'pull' nitrogen out of the soil, so it may be worth sprinkling some fertiliser around first.
