privet hedge question

    Hi all i have a small privet hedge about 5ft we have a small dog that seems to prefer next door's garden to ours so i need to close the base of the hedge off so she cant get through,i want to make small wooden frames with avery wire but i need to trim the bottom of the hedge so i can get a good fit will i damage the hedge if i cut to much from the base of the hedge away ..cheers

    Hi Andrew, no, you should be able to prune the bottom of the privet hedge so that you can fit the frames in. Just don't damage the main stems and you should be fine.:D:thumbsup:

    I think whatever cut you do, you'll need to make sure sunlight can get at the bare wood afterwards, otherwise I've got a feeling any buds that you'd want to develop to replace what you cut away will just lay dormant.

      Just wondering.
      Why can't you fit these "frames" from your neigbours side, but still at the bottom. You could point out its for their benefit, and they can see you are doing something. I was thinking it would be easier for you.
