I had a new patio built last year and a gap about 2" wide and 2" deep was left between the paving slabs and the lawn. I tried filling the gap with slate pieces but the weeds, particularly hundreds & thousands grow like billio. Is it possible to infill the gap with compost and grass seed or will this create problems with mowing the grass? I should be very grateful for any ideas on how I can get rid of this unsightly mess for good. Thanks in advance !:what:

Don't see why it should cause problems when mowing the grass - you'll just need to trim the longer bits as the mower won't go flush with the patio where it's higher than the lawn (looks like the lawn slopes down?). You'll need to keep the edge tidy where it meets the patio too or the grass will overlap.

Alternative you could use some lawn edging which you could run the mower over, such as this mow over edging (US site but there are similar products available in the UK)

Many thanks, I'll get off to the garden centre tomorrow, that lawn edging looks a good idea.

This is the stuff I'm thinking of getting to separate my border from the lawn ...
