Problem with young vine.

I planted a vine against my pergola early this year. It has grown up to about six feet high now, I have been picking out the side shoots to encourage it to grow up and over the pergola.

As the leaves develop they become mottled, shrivelled and under sized. Quite pathetic in fact for what I imagine a vine should do.

I think I have a disease here, or something.

Does any body have any suggestions?
