Hi, it is just a general enquiry. I have been using this site for 7 years but in all that time never managed to upload a photo, and would like to know how to do so. I would like to add pictures to my profile and to the forums. I see there is a section called How to use Xeforno and wonder if this relates to posting images, but I have looked at it and do not understand it. I use a Cannon Finepix camera with a memory card - the images come up as DRFS files and will upload to all the usual suspects, ie hotmail, twitter, in fact any site at all except GC. I would also like to look at threads I posted years ago as the information is still relevant, but I cannot find them. I have always wondered what is referred to in the profile when it says Forum Cash, I asked about this some years ago but there was no answer. I was so concerned about this phrase that I stopped using GC for some time, for fear I would find myself owing money, but it seems innocent enough so I am sure this is not the case.
    Thanks.

Hi @SimonZ - if I remember rightly, DRFS is a file storage system, and not the files themselves.

I suspect that your images are either being stored within that as either .RAW or .JPG - - if it is the latter, then they will upload just fine - however, there is a restriction on the maximum size you can upload to GC.

Do you have MS Office by any chance?

PS - Forum cash is a bit like monopoly money; the more you use the site, the more you earn, the idea being that (at some stage in the future) this forum cash can be used for games etc. You won't end up owing anybody anything, so please don't be concerned :)

Thanks, I was fairly certain after all these years that the Forum Money thing was something innocuous, I just thought it was a good opportunity to ask as I'd posted the other questions. It is good to have it confirmed though. I'll keep trying with the photos.

I'm definitely not an expert on these things (never heard of DRFS) but do upload lots of photos with no trouble.

As with most cameras, my photos are in JPEG format. As long as your camera is set to produce the photos in not too big a file (memory) then it's very easy to upload them.

If you go to where you have them stored on your computer (I'm assuming that you do store them on your computer) and right click your mouse on one of the photos it will produce a menu with a lot of options. Click on the 'Properties' option and it should tell you how big the file is in MB. I don't know what GC allows for direct transfer to it but my photos are 1.5MB and they work easily.

All I do is go to the thread on GC that I want to post it to, open up the software where I have the photos stored, left click on the photo and just drag it and drop it in where I would normally type my post on the thread.

It takes a few seconds for it to upload and you should see a small black scrolling area on the top right of the screen. When that finishes it will drop a thumbnail size photo to the bottom of where you are posting. You should then have two options alongside it. One says 'Thumbnail' and the other says 'Full Image'. Click your cursor on your post where you want the picture to appear and then go down to the photo and click 'Full Image' and it will appear where you put your cursor.

I have fairly slow internet and I have just timed how long it took to upload this photo. It was 20 seconds. :blue thumb:

We only deal in different coloured bottle caps, marbles, and old cigarette cards, Simon. There is no fee to join GC, nor is there any pressure to donate, but such donations go solely to the running of GC. Admin Staff are all unpaid volunteers with no agenda than making sure GC is a friendly, informative, and helpful in not only gardening advice but in the myriad of subject areas covered.:snorky:

I'll put out a call for the staff to give you a hand. They're all volunteers so are probably working at the moment.
