I mentioned this weed last year but hadn't taken proper photos of it, so wasn't able to find out.

We have always called it Strawberry Weed (for obvious reasons) and a lot of people round here also call it that. @Silver surfer I don't know if you remember but you said you hadn't heard of it and would need to see more detail.

It's a clever weed as it has a very long thin taproot with a nodule near the top (usually between half an inch to two inches below the surface) that snaps the top off and leaves the thin root. To remove it, fairly, successfully it needs the ground around it to be dug and then a hand inserted as far down the root as possible and pulled gently - with quite a lot of pressure. If you pull suddenly it just snaps off.

The leaves look just like strawberry leaves, grow close to the ground until later in the season when their stems grow longer and lift up more.

It propagates by runners and they travel far and fast

As you can see, the root is thin and long

A proper name for it would be appreciated :)

:) Good morning @shiney. Does it flower? Could it be Cinquefoil, Potentilla norvegica? Often confused for wild Strawberry.

Thanks all :dbgrtmb:. That seems to be it but I don't know about the flowers as we normally don't leave it that long. I'll leave on or two until the summer. Some of them are amongst plants where it can't be removed without damaging the plant.
