I am really proud of my garden and am thinking of having a website to show off my hard work and ideas for other enthusiasts to view.
As this will be a personal web page I do not want to spend a lot of money, but would like something that looks nice and I can call my own.
I have been looking around and the best option seems to be
Does anyone else have their own webpages?:flwsml:

No gardening stuff I'm afraid but have a peek around - the best website providers are who-ever you get your broadband from 'cos it's free (as long as they provide some webspace for their users).

I have been running a computer group for over 20 years. In the early days I used my ISP webspace, but when I changed ISP's I lost the web address (and email address). I soon realised that the only stable way to run a website was to pay for hosting. I started around 2000 with http://www.1and1.co.uk and still use them. I have five domains on my rented space. As I have an important domain which needs to be available at all times (for members and others) I also use http://www.one.com/en_GB/ as a back-up with a slightly different name. With one.com you can only have one domain per space.

You don't need to buy expensive software to make your html pages, download:- http://kompozer.net/ for free!, and to manage your uploads and downloads use this, download:- http://filezilla-project.org/

"Does anyone else have their own webpages?"

    I've got two suggestions.

    1) Use a Blog. I use Wordpress (because it lets me have "Web like pages" as well as "Blog pages"); Blogger is the other popular choice. Both free.

    2) Buy a domain name and then "point" it at your web space. You will probably be able to use some cheap/free hosting provided by your ISP. The good news about have a domain name is that you can change where it "points" - so you can move to a different ISP, but folk who use your domain name won't need to change anything. The same with your Email - [email protected] can be diverted to whatever email address your current ISP has provided you with.

However, option (2) is a bit techie, so although it offers all I've described it ain't quite as simple as I've made it sound!

If you want to have a look at the combination of Web Pages and Blog pages please following the link in my signature to my Wordpress site which describes what I've been up to in my garden.
