Pruning a Willow

After three years getting established this baby has gone crazy. She is beginning to trail across the border this year. Is this the time to prune and if so how hard?

 

Nick, the thing is, the harder you prune something, the more it will grow. I, personally, would prune it a foot from the ground, just to keep it tidy.:thumb:

 

Cheers David:thumb:....I'm afraid it's getting top heavy and liable to get rocked too much in a wind of any force. The branch growth is so much faster than the trunk can thicken. Should I stake it to be on the safe side?

Not a lot you can do other than reduce the lower growth, otherwise youll encouradge it more
