    Hi All

My cooking apple tree has taken on a very funny shape and has bent over at the top, it looks like I will have to cut it back quite a lot to remove the bend but this will leave the tree a bit short. If I try to post a picture on here would someone be able to advise on where to cut the tree. I can't really I try to straighten it with rope leading to a more solid point as I don't have anything higher that I could lead to.

Post a picture and people can advise you. What variety is your tree?

January/February is the best time to prune apple trees. In my previous garden there was a very large, over grown (untended) apple tree. I gave it a good chop in the January/February of the first year I was there and it absolutely flourished!

Try not to be shy about giving it a good chop: any cross over branches; old, tired wood. You will be aiding its health.

Another thought is I might be able to straighten it by tying it to a broomstick. What are peoples thoughts on this??

Looks like the weight of the fruit bent it. I wouldn't bother trying to straighten it, just cut it back by 2 thirds :)
