Every web site I look at tells me when to prune an azalea but none tells me exactly how to prune one. I find that it is not obvious where to cut. does anyone know of a web site that has pictures showing this. I failed to prune my indoor plant after it flowered apart from pulling off the dead petals. As a consequence it now has large brown bulbous knots at the tips and I cant see any new green growth. Shall I prune now even though all the books say not?

Not an azalea expert but I think the brown knots could contain next years flower buds, so pruning off these would be detrimental to next years flowers...anyone confirm this?

Thanks Marley - the second site is excellent and has answered my question - I've most likely pulled off the new growth!!

[IMG] Glad one of them was some help, sorry to here, we may be too late. Never mind you can prune it into shape for next year & get a good shape for flowering. You should end up with a lovely plant, that will be a lovly dark green foliage plant in the mean time. [IMG]
