Is it too late now to prune a buddleia?
It is very tall with a thick trunk. I was thing of cutting it back to maybe 0.5m high to make it more manageable

You can still prune Buddleja davidii types now, but don't leave it much longer. It should regrow and flower by late August, especially if you feed it with a high potash feed. I've sometimes cut them back in pots at this time of year to regenerate the growth, and generally it's worked rather well to give me later flowers.

The spring flowering species are normally pruned about now, after flowering.
