We bought a patio Apple tree last year that produces two types of Apple's. When and how do I prune it?

We also bought a dwarf plum but last year it didn' fruit. How and when do I prune it and does it self pollnate?

The apple trees can be done now. The general rule of thumb would be any branches which are crossing over one another and any others which are diseased or dead.

Can't answer about the plum though.
