    Good evening all

I have 4 quite large heathers in my back garden, they have become quite large and need a good triming back.
I was wondering how far to cut them back and when?
They are the summer flowering ones
    Thx Sean [IMG]

I recently read that if heather gets too large, sprawly and unsightly to put potting soil in the center and it will get rejuvenated. However, it will takes months, up to 6! I couldn't be bothered with that. I think that I would trim it back by about one quarter, and then trim it a bit every year after that, in the autumn after flowering.

Mowgley they are best cut back just after flowering I usually use the shears on them if they have become to leggy try layering them and start new plants

Congratulations on the picture - the yellow one looks more like an erica than a calluna and I'd be careful not to shear that one too hard don't cut below the leaf line, preferrably just below the flowers.
