My rose bushes seem to grow to 4ft or 5ft high and produce the flowers right at the tips with none lower down. In order to get lower flower heads, would it work if I kept pruning the branches during the growing season, ie from May onwards?? The idea would be to make a more bushy plant. Does this work with roses like it does with ordinary shrubs?

Good evening Barryman I do Summer prune depending on the Rose especially with vigorous English Roses, Summer pruning the more vigorous repeat flowering varieties after each flush of flowers can encourage better repeat flowering and will also limit the height of the rose. To summer prune, simply cut back the flowering stems, leaving two or three buds remaining on this season's new growth.
