Hi, when we had all the mild weather in January I engaged a gardener to cut back growth on a variety of trees - I've delayed this twice due to the frost and snow, but now he is planning on Tuesday 14 Feb. Do you think I should wait and put him off again until afer threat of frosts? He says as long as it isnt frosty when they cut the trees will be ok. Do you agree?

I think you did the right thing in putting off the pruning till now. Given that the weather forecast is improving I'd say it's OK to start pruning (assuming you aren't on the top of Mt Snowdon?)

    I'd get it done ASAP.
Time moves on, and I might be wrong but I've never actually seen a problem in pruning dormant hardy trees in frosty weather.

Evergreens, I might make an exception if its drastic pruning.
