pruning vine

    when and where do i start with overgrown vine please, not very old

    you really should prune vines after leaf fall, but not later that the end Jan.
    this is because of the plant bleeding as it starts to take up moisture.

    that looks rather tricky, and they seem to be all outdoor vines, i think i ll invent my own method and call it lateprune2006

    I think its too late now as rossco said it will bleed like crazy.
    Cant you leave it for this year, when it gets going you can still control it a bit by cutting back any new shoots that you dont want.
    If you only cut the new growth it wont bleed.

    yes , i m only jokingm ill try rubbing out new sheeot, i dont think anyone really expects too much fruit

    [​IMG] there is not much difference in pruning indoor or outdoor vines.
    you need to get a frame work started.
    if you have a main stem of about 5' or more, try and get some laterals to go similar to the diagram.
    these will produce growth from the buds along the laterals.
    next year, prune the new growth to within 2" of the lateral to produce your spurs.
    hopefully by then you will have more info to continue the production of fine fruit. :D
