Pruning young apple tree

Hi
Have a young apple tree few years old grew from seed is 1.5m high now want to prune as half standard, I know to prune at between 1.3 and 1.5 m but what do I do with all the side branches? Ps I know from seed I will prob get a spitter but it's fun to try lol

Lots of online guides for pruning young appples tree better than we could describe -

Also check if you need to stake the tree as some young cordons we tried split their trunk in summer due to the weight of fruit during a summer gale.

Hope you appreciate it will be unlikely to be the same as the parent plant - though as you say still fun to grow.
