Pruning

    When is the best time to prune a pear tree ??? all the fruit has gone the birds had the last few pears.

    Regular annual pruning is usually carried out in dead of winter. Heavy pruning possibly best achieved either at the same time (if you want to rejuvenate the plant) or in mid-late summer (if you wish to restrict the subsequent srprouting).

    Would the answer for pear trees apply to all fruit trees?

    All but plums which should be done later spring really.

    :eek: Pruning terrifies me.I tried to cut back a viburnum once and killed it stone dead. :(
