I pulled my first carrot today and was walking round for ages with it in my hand showing my neighbours and my mate then I washed it and ate it Bugs Bunny style and it was gorgeous. Thats the first time I've eaten something I've grown. Grew some tomatoes when I was young but didn't eat them then lol

Everything tastes better from your own garden, but a freshly pulled carrot seems to lose its really fresh taste quicker than most things if you store it. You cannot beat that crisp, clean flavour of a carrot straight from the earth!

I also pulled my first carrot today - it had alittle accident when I was trying to get a weed out, I pulled most of the top off it so 'had' to pull it out. It's about as big as my little finger. Don't think it'll go far in our house so I might have to eat it just to check it's okay of course :D

Me too.My 1st of the year and no carrot fly

I resisted watering them at all earlier on when it didn't rain for a month and they seemed to have sent cracking tap roots down to search for water as a result.

Last year I watered them and they were a disaster.

Little Miss it really is so good growing your own it's kind of like having your own Quickie Mart right on your door step and the best thing about it is that it doesn't cost you anything! Yum, yum! Hel.xxx.

Hi LMRR. Been eating my own carrots for about a month now and I have to say, I`ve never tasted carrots like them ! I used to grow stuff years ago, but this is my first year back after a gap of some 20 years. Straight out of the ground, and into the pan, can`t beat it ! BTW, I can understand your excitement, I was exactly the same when I first pulled up those carrots, there`s something about root crops, I guess it`s the not knowing till you pull them up how they`re going to be. Cheers...freddy.

It'd be nice if I managed to get a strawberry. My little boy goes out eveyday to check them, if theres a red one it's pulled off the plant and into his mouth. Think I'm safe on the carrot front though as he's not too keen on the roots just the tops at the moment - don't know what he's going to do when he finds out that theres something attatched to the bottom though.

Last year my daughter constantly was checking the wild strawberries we have growing in various parts of the garden. She didn't worry about whether they were red or not, they all got eaten.
