Me too, I've grown them for a few years but never taken any care. I've learnt some things on here which will be useful for my other veggies too, so it's been really useful for me to find out how the rest of you do things :-)

I've learned that it might be a good idea to put straw under the fruits as they form, stop em going pummy.

Will be growing Pumpkin Nuts next season, Cucurbita Pepo var. styriaca.

Will send some to Steve when I get them.

John, perhaps you should keep them away from the booze next time, Mr. Big, drunk and incapable methinks! :heehee:

          Well done to everyone! :dbgrtmb:

I'd like to give it another go, and this time I'll be better prepared by being able to get a big pit of muck started well in advance.

Stick a sheet of perforated expanded polystyrene under it, mice are too fond of straw and burrowing into pumpkins to get at the seeds.

I'd love to give it a go ...... :fingerdrum: I'm just wondering if my tiny town garden has room for a giant pumpkin. Could we hold a competition for the smallest?

Not sure yet if I'd be interested in growing one again next year, its too early to say, I tend to make my growing decisions after Christmas.

That is very good pete. I don't think the photo does it justice, given it's huge size that must be quite imposing. :dbgrtmb:

Just carved mine, got to say I've never grown a pumpkin that was completely full, no hollow and only a tiny pithy bit in the middle, it certainly took a bit of scraping out. And I only found one seed, usually there are hundreds.

As mine was hadn't really formed properly so was an odd shape, it reminded me of the cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland:
