I personally can't stand the things but I'm attempting to grow some for my partner.

They are growing well but I have a question or 3.

1/ Do the female flowers need to be pollinated to bear fruit?

2/ If so, can I pollinate from a male flower on the same plant ?

3/ How best to pollinate as the bees don't seem to want to help?

Oh, do the same rules apply to squashes?

    Many thanks.

    Vince: 1/ Yes
2/ Yes/No (I always grow at least a couple of pumpkins side by side to do this as I think you get bigger fruit if you cross pollinate, but its not essential)
3/ I always have to hand pollinate, I've never know a single pumpkin set on its own this site explains it well: http://www.pumpkinnook.com/howto/pollen.htm

I only grow them for a bit of fun for halloween, no-one in our family likes the taste except me in pumpkin pie - yum.
