I managed to grow lovely pumpkin plants last year but only very tiny pumpkins, which eventually went squishy and rotted away (those that the slugs hadnt eaten that is!) The soil here is good deep loam with lots of horse muck dug in. Tried to do all the right things, feeding, watering, supporting fruits on tiles etc but no luck. Like the UK, we had a long hot summer, but many people have managed to grow pumpkins easily. Any advice? I think I shall have to get the slug problem under control first (garden organically and have livestock so wont use pellets)

Sumo,If you have a look at the first thread on here about the vegetable competition you will see the photos of the Pumpkins I grew last year and that was my first attempt.I am not sure what you did wrong as I couldn't stop mine and with plenty of water they just grew and grew.Keep trying that is all I can say..Good Luck

Fantastic pumpkins, Kandyfloss (grrr!) I shall persevere this year. My failure with them are a big joke amongst some (non-gardening) friends. I`ll show them!

    Hiya,

My stepdaughter wanted to grow something in the garden, and whilst I was sweeping the conservatory floor a few weeks ago, I found some pumpkin seeds from when she'd hollowed out her halloween lantern. Planted them up and now they're 2" tall. What do I do next ?

    Thanks

    Kandyfloss and Marley Farley -
You are making me nostalgic and I LIVE here!
I come from the North, outside Ramsey. Take the dogs on the beach most days, hardly ever see anyone else there and can walk for miles. My cousin has a smallholding at Cronk-y-Voddy. Jurby Junk is still going, as far as I know!

Hi Sumo, sorry I missed this post.We had a holiday over on Man a few years ago,for two weeks. We drove and walked all over the Island. It was nice going up to the top of Snae Fell by electric train.Mr K andy also went to the top of the Laxey Wheel, but because I don't like heights I stayed firmly rooted to the spot.We also drove past Tynwold where the parliment sits..Happy memories,of a fantastic Island [IMG] :D
