These are two Guniea Pigs I am looking after for a friend and thought I would show you some pictures of them... Mabel Punky Sorry if any photos are blurred, but they are fast movers and when they eat the whole head moves...
Thankyou both for your kind words...Marge,if you know anything about what piggies eat could you let me know as I have a bag of dried food that was left but I am sure they have to have fruit and vegetables for their health...I have given them this afternoon Cucumber,Apple,Pear,Cabbage and Lettuce. They went mad for it all...they also have fresh drinking water and hay in the bed department...I am also looking after the families goldfish as well :D
Thanks HK I will give some of my home grown ones tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to keep them still long enough to get some decent photos :D :D
http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk/gp/food.asp This might help Kandy - I dont know much about piggies diet, sorry. They are just so gorgeous
Thanks for that Marge. I have put into my favorites. I tried them on carrot today and they turned their noses up at it.They didn't like apple either. They had me out in the garden with a pair of scissors though cutting them some grass which they went mad for :D :D though I got some funny looks from the neighbours.
I dont think its a good idea to cut the grass with scissors Kandy, something to do with the chemical reaction or soemthing, not sure - better to just pull it up I learned this whem I first got my rabbits I just give mine the best hay I can find - too much fresh grass can upset them I think
They are just darling Kandy. When I looked after my neighbours rabbits they couldn't get enough of the carrot tops, perhaps the piggies would like that too.
Beautiful piggies Kandyfloss! They are both English crested - very sweet! I have four guinea girls - one is an English crestie (Scottish crestie!) I keep them indoors, it is much more comfortable for them (they often suffer from the UK extremes in temperature, and damp and draughts)They are really part of the family! I have loads of pics - I may start a thread on them - if anyone is interested. Thwe link Marge posted was pretty good. They need good green hay or dried grass 24/7 - preferably in a hayrack as they love to lie in it (to keep it safe from other pigsters) - it can get wet and mucky. The best dried food is a pellet - as mixes tend to allow them to pick out the junky bits - leaving the good stuff behind. The very best is Oxbow cavy cuisine, though Burgess supa-guinea is a close second (and more easily found), with science selective also being acceptable. I will pm you a really good list of veggies - but they love their fresh veg so much, it is good to feed them twice a day. A rough guide to amount would be an american cup size - around 8 oz. Fresh grass is really good for them too - but introduce it slowly - as it could cause sore tums. Got to go and pick up my son - will see if I've missed anything, and post more later. Hope that's helped!
Hi Jarbax, Thankyou for the list.Mr Kandy will think I am going to feed them better than him :D Now they are living with us,they should be a bit more comfortable.I will certainly take on board what you have said and will look at the link you gave me... Yes do put up your photos it will be nice to see what yours look like.If no one else looks at the thread then I certainly will
