Purple podded mangetout peas

    I tried these this year and to be honest not impressed. They are a bit tough when eaten raw and when cooked turn a rather unattractive shade of olive-sludge.

    Any other members tried them and with what result?

    At least they are easier to spot when harvesting! I feel the same about the purple podded French beans - can't quite see the point.

    I tried them last year, like you say I found them a bit tough and stringy. The grandkids loved them only because they gave them purple tongues and teeth. So I'm not bothering with them again, back to normal sugarsnaps this year which have been lovely tasting.
