yep we leave water out all year for the wild furry & feathery critters

can i just say if its an option (may not be if you've cat problems) but if you can could you leave some food out for the hedgehogs, they can starve to death when the weathers this hot & dry (slugs & snails are not nearly as active in this heat...even earthworms stay below ground so the poor little fella's just end up going hungry :frown:

I've a plastic plant pot saucer that I keep refreshing the water in my bird table and when I was forced out of my job (school site manager/IT guy) the parents got together and gave me a beautiful sandstone bird bath. The birds LOVE IT! And I like to see the birds bathing in it too. Have to keep brushing it clean most days as sadly the pigeons also use it and they don't care how much they foul the water.

I'm refilling my bird bath three times a day at the moment, the starlings will bath en masse leaving a dirty puddle in the bottom.

Honeybunny, I'd like to put food out for the hedgehogs but it attracts the longtails (r-a-t-s) and there's no real predators here to keep their numbers down.

The bird bath, which is not a bird bath, but looked like it would make a great bird bath, was duly installed, looked quaint and within minutes I had a chaffinch arrive in the nearby tree. Hurrah! thought I; what a speedy result. I watched as it made its way through the branches of the tree above the bird bath and then it swooped ... to the dogs water bowl under the apple tree :roflol:
Moral of the story: if there's water, they'll find it!
