    Hi All

Looking to landscape my rear garden this year and lay new lawn edged with stone setts, i have a good quality rear roller rotary Honda mower.

My problem lies in my topsoil which is VERY heavy clay, i made the mistake of laying turf on the front lawn without good prep work and 2 years later still trrying to improve the compacted clay soil via aerating/top dressing etc.

I do not want to make same mistake again so was going to get some quality topsoil and turf.

I want fine bladed grass but not stupidly high maintenance.

    Anybody recommend anyone ?

    Cheers

Rolawn is the name in turf, and topsoil. Typically sold by distributors around and about (lots of garden centres, and building materials yards)

I drove to the Fens and bought turf straight off the field where it was being lifted, which worked out at about £1 / turf (turf size approx 1 sq.yard).

I agree with Kristen, Rolawn is a good name in turf and topsoil, but there also other suppliers that are just as good quality but perhaps not as much in cost.

Have a look in the yellow pages, for topsoil suppliers, also at the local garden centre would perhaps give you some ideas.

I used to buy topsoil in bulk from a local skip firm, where I would use the poorer quality stuff to fill a large area, and the better quality stuff as a final finish layer.

Perhaps a location (eg the county where you are) could be helpful, as some members could perhaps put you in touch with their suppliers/contacts that are close to you.

    Hope this Helps!

Cheers guys. I am located in West Glamorgan (Port Talbot). I laid my front lawn from Inturf but was not impressed with it tbh.

Just not sure to go for a full ornamental or one with dwarf rye grass ?

Try and stick to a local firm ad look at their turf before you buy, local equates to less delivery mileage and fresher turf with less drying out during transit and cheaper than national firms.
